Interview with Bashar Kailani: Field Coordinator in Ukraine
Doctors of the World is organizing for the first time a virtually connected and worldwide run to promote access to health care: #RunForHealth. On June 12th, 2016 runners at every level, wherever they are in the world, will be able to come together through sport on behalf of Doctors of the World.
#RunForHealth is a 10-km run being organized in multiple countries around the world. The idea is simple: run where you want, when you want and with who you want on Sunday, June 12th. Everyone taking part must connect their running app or GPS watch to the Run for Health platform and run with it on the day. The site is compatible with most running apps such as Nike+, Runtastic, Strava and Garmin.
Registration for the race is open from May 10th – you can sign up online here. A donation to Doctors of the World (over 10 euros) is all that is required in order to register. All donations will be allocated to Doctors of the World’s programs in support of promoting equal access to care for the most vulnerable communities.
You may take part on your own or set up a team of 2-4 people. In this case, the 10km can be divided between members of the team. Teams may practice before the race by completing various sporting challenges or quizzes. Everyone’s efforts and all donations collected will be officially recorded. There will also be a map of the world to keep track of participation in every country. In addition, the event ranking arrangements will track the progress of your team in relation to donations collected or kilometers run.
In order to publicize the event, runners are invited to tell others about the race on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #RunForHealth2016. Encourage your friends and family to take part by doing the run or by supporting it with a donation to Doctors of the World.
Running never felt so good!
