Women Deliver 2023 - Doctors of the World

Women Deliver 2023

Paris, July 13, 2023.
From July 17 to 20, the international conference on gender equality: Women Deliver will be held in Kigali, Rwanda. This sixth edition will bring together nearly 6,000 activists, researchers, journalists, and public authorities.

Gender equality is a major issue and an essential prerequisite for any action of social justice and international solidarity carried out by our associations. We will therefore be present at Women Deliver, to defend: sexual and reproductive health and rights and in particular the right to abortion, the fight against gender-based violence, the fight against the criminalization of bodies and sexualities and the fight against gender inequalities, the causes and consequences of which have a wide spectrum of impact, including world hunger.

Even today, almost one person in two in the world lives in a country where the voluntary termination of pregnancy is illegal. Women’s rights organizations receive only 0.13% of official development assistance, and only 0.4% of all gender-related assistance (AWID).

France will be represented by a political delegation on the spot. Faced with the rise of anti-choice movements that threaten sexual and reproductive rights, French associations are calling on France to prioritize this commitment. This new edition is an opportunity to recall the need to take French feminist diplomacy further in terms of ambition and funding. The latest report from the High Council for Equality is categorical: French feminist diplomacy must be accompanied by a secure, multi-year and sustainable budget line for its management and implementation, and support for feminist organizations is a priority.

The establishment of a sustainable and long-term strategy aimed at building a world free of gender inequalities and gender-based violence requires the active involvement of feminist organizations of women and girls. It is therefore urgent and necessary to mobilize more resources to strengthen these structures and enable them to implement their actions. France must be exemplary and allocate at least 0.1% of GDP to the fight against sexual and gender-based violence.

Women Deliver meets every three years. This international conference represents the largest gathering in favor of gender equality in the world. It will be a key intersectional space to make visible and politically prioritize the challenges relating to the respect of the rights of women, girls and gender minorities, to create synergies between various actors, and to influence public authorities to obtain progressive legislation and policies. and feminists.
