A financial services executive for over 20 years, Alex also has extensive public policy experience, working on issues ranging from immigration and refugee rights to the Dodd-Frank financial reforms.  She has served as Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer and Regulatory Counsel at global companies including Scotiabank, Cargill, Barclays and Louis Dreyfus.  Alex has also been an active member of Industry Committees, including the CFTC’s Global Markets Advisory Committee.

As an M&A and corporate securities lawyer with Kramer Levin (in its Energy, New Media and Financial Services practice groups) in New York, she did considerable pro bono work, successfully representing refugees from Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Somalia.  She contributed to a project that raised awareness about the improper treatment of asylum seekers in the U.S. and helped recent arrivals who were imprisoned pending their hearings. 

Alex was a Human Rights fellow at New York University Law School and has worked with Human Rights and Humanitarian organizations, including Human Rights First, the UN High Commission for Refugees, the International Labour Organization and the World Federation for Mental Health.  She is also active in Community Service and is currently a Director of a provider of housing and services to homeless families in New York.  

Early in her career, Alex was a Press Secretary and senior legislative and political advisor to several ministers in the Canadian House of Commons, including the Rt. Hon. Kim Campbell, Canada’s first female Prime Minister.  

Alex has degrees from Queen’s University, Oxford University (Wadham College) and the University of Toronto (Faculty of Law).
